What is a UPI QR code?
A UPI QR code is a scannable way to present payment details to someone using an Indian UPI app. Instead of typing your UPI ID by hand, the payer opens a compatible app, scans the code, checks the recipient, and approves the payment there. The QR image holds a payment link; it does not transfer money on its own.
UPI stands for Unified Payments Interface, the system that allows participating apps and banks to initiate bank-to-bank payments in India. A UPI ID, also called a virtual payment address, usually looks like name@bank. This UPI QR Code Generator turns that address, an optional display name, and any payment details into a code that another person can scan.
Some people need one reusable code on a counter. Others need a code with an amount already filled in for an invoice or a class fee. Both start with the same basic task: make sure the destination details are correct, create the QR, and test it before asking anyone to pay. The payer should still review the name and amount shown in their app before entering a UPI PIN.
How to create your payment QR
Use the form above to make a QR that fits the way you collect payments. You can return and change any field before downloading.
- 1
Add the recipient
Enter the UPI ID linked to the receiving account. Add a display name if you want one on the code. You can choose another supported address format, then test it in an app before use.
- 2
Set the request
Add an amount for a particular bill or leave it empty so the payer can enter one. A short note can help identify a service, order, or shared expense.
- 3
Test and share
Scan the preview using your own UPI app. Once the recipient and amount look right, download an image, print the card, or copy the payment link.
A reusable code or a specific amount?
The amount field changes what the payer sees first. Neither option requires a new account, and you can make a fresh code whenever the request changes.
Open amount
Leave the amount blank when every customer may owe something different. A café counter, local market stall, donation table, or shared household fund can display one code and let each payer enter the amount in their own app. The payment address and any display name stay the same in the QR. If you change receiving accounts, create and print a new code.
Pre-filled amount
Add a rupee amount when you are requesting a particular total. This can save typing on a fixed-price invoice, lesson fee, event payment, or one-off order. The payer should still check the value shown in their app. A pre-filled amount is a convenience, while the app controls the final approval and any editing it allows.
Where a UPI QR generator helps
A payment code should be easy to recognize at the moment someone needs to pay. On a printed sign, place the code near the price and show the recipient name clearly. On an invoice, set the amount and include a note that matches the bill. In a message, send the link only after checking that it contains the correct UPI ID.
For a small business, a QR can reduce the need to repeat an address aloud or over chat. For an individual, it makes a shared expense easier to settle. A tutor can request a class fee, a freelancer can add a code to a PDF invoice, and an event organizer can place a code on a registration sheet. In every case, keep the payment request clear about who receives the money and what it is for.
At the counter
Print a reusable code and let each customer enter their own total.
On an invoice
Use the billed amount and a short reference in the payment note.
For a group
Share a code for club dues, shared costs, or a community event.
In a message
Copy a payment link for a mobile-friendly request.
Check before you print
A scannable image can look perfect even when one character in the payment address is wrong. Before you share the finished UPI QR code, scan it with a device you trust and look at the payment screen. Confirm the recipient details and, if you added one, the requested amount. Do the same check on the actual printout because resizing, poor contrast, or a cropped border can make a code difficult to scan.
Never enter a UPI PIN on this website or in response to a request to receive money. The payer enters their PIN only in their payment app to approve a payment they intend to make. A QR code is a request to pay; creating or displaying one does not provide payment confirmation. Use your bank or UPI app history to verify receipt.
If you use bank account, Aadhaar, or mobile modes, remember that those details become part of the QR data even if they are hidden in the form. Support for these address formats may vary between apps. A regular UPI ID is usually the simplest choice when you have one.
UPI QR code questions
These answers cover the choices people make most often while creating a payment code. If a payment behaves unexpectedly, your UPI app or bank is the right place to check its status.
Is this UPI QR Code Generator free to use?
Yes. You can create a QR code, download the image, and make a printable card without creating an account. The tool itself does not collect or process payments. Your bank or payment provider may apply its own rules or charges.
Can I make a QR code without a fixed amount?
Yes. Leave the amount field empty. The person scanning the code can enter the amount in their UPI app before approving the payment. This works well for a shop counter, a tip jar, or any situation where the total changes.
Can I add an exact amount to a UPI QR code?
Enter an amount in rupees before you download the code. The amount will be included in the payment request and should appear when a compatible app scans it. How a payer can edit that amount depends on the app and payment flow, so test it before using it for a fixed-price sale.
Which apps can scan the generated QR code?
The QR contains a standard UPI payment link intended for compatible UPI apps, including popular payment apps and bank apps. App behavior can vary, especially for bank account, Aadhaar, and mobile address formats. Always test your code in the app your customers are likely to use.
Does the tool verify my UPI ID or confirm payment?
No. It checks the format of what you type and turns it into a QR image, but it cannot confirm account ownership, whether an address can receive money, or whether a payment succeeds. Verify the recipient name in your UPI app and check your bank or app history for a completed payment.
Does the QR code expire?
The downloaded image is a static representation of the payment details you entered. It has no built-in expiry from this tool. It can stop working if the payment address changes, is disabled, or is no longer accepted by a payer's app.
Can I put the QR code on an invoice or sign?
Yes. Download a PNG for everyday use, an SVG for crisp resizing, or the ready-to-print payment card. Leave sufficient white space around the code, print it at a readable size, and scan the final printout before relying on it.
